Ekushey Television was the first private terrestrial channel in Bangladesh. Official transmission began on April 14, 2000, after a very short time of transmission it became

the voice of the nation and the most popular TV channel in Bangladesh through its news and other innovative programs.

However, it was closed down on August 29, 2002, when Managing Director Simon Dring and three other executives were charged with fraud. Dring, a British journalist, had his visa and work permit cancelled.

However, permission for the station to continue transmission once more was granted on April 14, 2005, and transmission was resumed, on December 1, 2006.

Its official transmission started 29 March 2007 and, started 24 hour transmission on June 1.

RTV is a satellite television channel broadcasted from Bangladesh. It started operation on 26 December 2005. It mainly broadcasts programs in Bangla.26 February 2007. NTV, along with its sister station RTV, was forced off the air temporarily due to a massive fire at the station building. Three people died and over 100 were injured in the blaze. The fire caused NTV to broadcast reruns of programs. Since NTV was not able to broadcast their own news, they worked with Banglavision to broadcast Banglavision news on the NTV channe.

Rtv, the country’s fourth private satellite television channel, formally goes on air from December 26.‘Rtv will go on air from December 26,’ the chairman and managing director of the television channel, Mosaddak Ali, announced at a press conference on Saturday.

The president, Iajuddin Ahmed, is expected to inaugurate the formal broadcasting at the Bangladesh China Friendship Conference Centre at 6:30pm on the day.

The channel will go for experimental broadcasting form December 1 and will air programmes for 24 hours from the very first day of its formal journey, Mosaddak, also a lawmaker of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party, said.

Mosaddak, also the chairman of another satellite channel, ntv, expressed his confident that Rtv would be able to satisfy the viewers with its good quality picture, and impartial news and views.

We are determined to maintain objectivity and impartiality in news presentation,’ he said and added that the new channel would also broadcast talk show and entertainment programmes considering the tastes variation of viewers of all ages and classes.

Avoiding direct reply to a question, whether he hadgot the licence on political consideration, Mosaddak said, ‘I have applied for the licence in 2002 and the government granted it.

Radio Foorti is a Bangladeshi FM radio station. The station went live on September 22, 2006 and is currently available in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.Radio Foorti hit the airwaves on September 22, 2006 in Dhaka at a frequency of 98.4 MHz. It later changed the frequency to 88.0 MHz by September, 2007. It went on air in Chittagong in July, 2007 at 98.4 MHz and in Sylhet on February 1, 2008 at 89.8 MHz.

Radio Foorti is basically a music radio station and with the help of its 12 radio jockeys plays a wide variety of music, ranging from golden classics to the latest song released from the top artists in Bangladesh, even mixing the hottest international tracks into the playlist. Broadcasting on a frequency of 98.40 MHz, Radio Foorti was one of the first stations to obtain and make use of a new ordinance allowing broadcast radio to take off. Armed with Apu as their first radio jockey, the station sought to provide quality music and entertainment through a media largely ignored throughout the satellite television boom.

Initially only able to be heard across Dhaka, Radio Foorti expanded aggressively, hitting Chittagong airwaves in July of 2007 and ensuring Sylhet got Foorti at 89.8 MHz from the 1st of February of 2008, while changing it's own Dhaka frequency to 88.0 MHz to ensure that no barrier can overcome a listener and their demand for Foorti. But Radio Foorti doesn't intend to stop there; the people of Khulna, Bogra, Rajshahi, Barisal, Mymensingh, Rangpur and Cox's Bazaar will be happy to know that Foorti will set up stations in their areas next, thus covering the broad area of Bangladesh and making Radio Foorti one of the few national radio stations in the country.

Through its network of friendly radio jockeys, constant audience interaction via text messages and special features allowing fans to get closer to their favourite stars, Radio Foorti has helped redefine the FM culture and has helped usher in a new way for music to be heard and for entertainment to be enjoyed.

ABC Radio is the first news focused FM radio station in Bangladesh. ABC radio is a part of Mediastar, from Transcom Group. Its owner is the Transcom Group. The station studio is located at the media area of Karwanbazaar. The head program and news of ABC Radio is Sanaullah Lablu (former chief news editor of Prothom alo). The station stays on air for 24 hours at FM 89.2 MHz of frequency from Dhaka station. As a newest member of FM radio family ABC started its all out commercial operation from January 7, 2008.
